Boat and Railway Inn, Shaw Lane, Stoke Prior

This small pub is on the side of the canal and on a good day you can sit outside at the waters edge watching the boats go past. Though small it has been extended to include a Sports Bar with large screen televisions. There is also a function room upstairs.

There is a good menu with sandwiches, snacks and full meals. You can get a snack of egg, cold ham and chips for about £2.50. Many starters are under £2 and main meals average about £5. Sweets are also under £2. Considerately there were three specific vegetarian dishes on the menu.

You can see that you can eat well here at reasonable cost and it was very well prepared when we visited. It goes without saying that liquid refreshment is readily available. Going towards Bromsgrove it is on the edge of the area Spa Man covers but well worth a visit.

Bridge Inn Tibberton Tel 01905 345874

The Bridge Inn used to be small but although compact the latest layout provides a good number of tables.
This is a very popular pub because it is by the canal you can sit outside in the summer. There are tables by the canal side or there is a back garden away from the canal.

There is a wide and varied reasonably priced menu from snacks to full meals. Although it is unlikely such a large choice can all be prepared freshly on the premises it is well cooked and the service is prompt and pleasant. Being a pub drinks including wines is no problem and in the winter mulled wine is available.

This is a very popular pub due to its location so it would be wise to book in advance for evening meals.

Castle Hotel, 73, Worcester Rd, Droitwich Spa Tel 01905 770128

The Castle hotel is on the Worcester Rd passing through the town. When we visited meals where reduced by 25% between 2.30pm and 6.00pm.

There was a well-constructed pub menu allowing for a full meal or a snack. The bar staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was hot and tasty. A main course would be between £6.00 to £10.00 and is good value even without the reduction mentioned above. Wines and drinks are no problem as despite its name this is a pub not a hotel.

Review Copcut Elm, Worcester Road, Droitwich Spa

This large newly refurbished establishment offers a good menu with main courses from approx £6 to £10 on average.

The menu, which can be viewed on line at www.greeneking.co.uk/launch_hungry_horse.htm, covers: -

Steaks, burgers, an All Day Breakfast, traditional dishes, fish, salads, pasta, Mexican, Chinese and Indian dishes not forgetting vegetarian meals.

The staff when we visited were friendly and polite.

Wine is approx £8 to £9 per bottle with a good choice and a large glass is from £3.60. A full bar is also available.
The meal portions are enormous but my steak pie was not as tasty as expected and the vegetables were cold. My colleague's All Day Breakfast was very good.
The children's menu is very well designed making it easy to select their main meal and the children will like the website.

There is no smoking in the restaurant area.

Crown and Sandys, Ombersley

My intrepid reviewers B&B have been to this establishment, which is now more of a wine bar and bistro than a pub, twice in recent weeks. They said the new décor affords a pleasant atmosphere. The reason for two visits was to try the Wine Bar food on one visit and the Bistro food on another.

They thought the bar food was excellent with good tasting house wine served by the glass if desired. Cost about £10 per head for one course.

The Bistro menu is a bit pretentious but the food was good at between £15 to £20 per head for two courses and again good house wine by the glass or bottle as required.

I trust B&B's judgement because the male part of this team cooks up a mean barbecue in the summer months, come rain or shine, and being a Scot knows value for money when he sees it. The female part of the team is a good judge of wines, amongst other things.

Review The Gate Hangs Well at Stoke Prior

Here is a review from Gillian one of our regular readers:

This pub is out in the sticks a bit, but it is worth the journey.
The pub is very nicely decorated and clean. The drinks were reasonably priced.
The food comes in the range of a carvery £6.00, basket meals for £2.50 and meal from the menu from approx. £10.00.
One thing I really did like was that if you order a meal from the menu you could still choose the vegetables from the carvery, hence you weren't served the normal peas and carrots.
My husband selected the Duck Breast in Plum and Ginger sauce and I had the carvery; the food was fab.

The Old Chequers Inn, Crowle. Tel 01905 381275

400 year old free house specialising in sea food.

Our local reviewer David says he has never had a bad meal here. They charge a fair and reasonable price for a good meal.. It has had an excellent reputation for years. It specialises in sea food but everything else is good too. Wines available by the bottle or the glass. From the car park at there are outstanding views over Worcestershire.

Pillar of Salt, Celvestune Way

The Pillar Of Salt has been refurbished and is now a pub/restaurant catering for anything from sandwiches to a ‘belt bustin’ meal. They offer two meals for £5.00 between 12 noon and 5.30 p.m. each day. This consists of one course, but there is a choice of six main courses, including a vegetarian option. The food we had was hot from the kitchen and well cooked. This venue represents very good value for money and as we often say, you get what you pay for. Even the most expensive main courses e.g. peppered steak and steak diane are only between £5.50 and £7.00 approx. in cost.

There is of course full choice of starters, main course and sweet and a cafetiere of coffee with mug costs only £1.10p.

They have a new bar which means there is no lack of choice for drinks, including cocktails and wines.

This is a large pub/restaurant and with the new décor appears bright and friendly. The service was very good when we visited, but it was at a quiet time of day so we cannot be sure how speedy the service is in busier times.

We would certainly go here again for an inexpensive pub type meal.

The Red Lion, Droitwich Rd, Bradley Green

One of our readers said we must go here for their super lunch time carvery, which he said was £2.99. Bradley Green is slightly outside the area we cover but our intrepid investigators F & S said they would try it out. They did not go at lunchtime but in the evening.

They say that this is a large country pub with plenty of parking and a large garden with play facilities for children. The staff were very pleasant. Prices are reasonable and the food is of an acceptable standard. They enjoyed their visit.

The Robin Hood, Rashwood

Very Good - This public house serves good quality meals at a reasonable price. Well situated by junction 5 of the M5 on the Droitwich Spa side. My reviewers like their wine and thought there was a good choice of wines by the glass available to complement the meal. Well recommended.

The Spring Meadow

We called here at lunchtime and had the "2 4 1" Carvery. In other words for two meals you get the cheapest free even when ordering from the full menu and boards displayed. The roast beef carvery was excellent and there was a good choice of starters and deserts at reasonable prices. Service was polite and friendly. Wines, spirits and soft drinks are no problem being a pub. This is a big public house and the restaurant area is pleasant. On the other hand if you enter by the bar area this is not so well laid out and welcoming.

We would recommend this as a very reasonably priced place to eat at lunchtime or in the evening.
