Food Review: A comment on service |
![]() |
If you want to know about good service and find yourself in Milan, Italy go and see Radi at Restaurant Globe, Piazza Cinque Giornate, 1/a 20129 Milan, Tel 02 55 18 19 69. Globe is a cocktail and wine bar, with restaurant, on the top floor of the Coin department store with a panoramic view over part of the Milan skyline. | |
| Happy Hour lasts from 6 pm to 8 pm (typically Italian) during which a buffet and cocktail is on offer for 8000 Lira (just over £2.50) but try the restaurant it puts our department store restaurants to shame. Radi is the Head Waiter who is an Egyptian from Cairo and he knows how to give good service. | ![]() |

We turned up without a reservation and he politely found us a very good table. It was early however and judging by how it filled up later a reservation is recommended. Radi talked us through the menu making suggestions, even about where we could mix and share courses to make a better meal. He suggested an excellent wine and was attentive throughout the meal. He helped turn a good meal into something special and demonstrated what good service can do. He suggested the Lemon Sorbet with Vodka to clean the palate and urged us not to rush after the meal but to relax. You could even go back to the cocktail bar and listen to music until 2 am if you wanted to. A three-course meal, wine and good service for less than £25 per head was excellent value but most impressive of all was the quality of service. Milan may seem a long way to go for a meal but it is a great city to visit and there are budget flights with Buzz or Go from Stansted. Check out our Travel section. |
