roitwich History &
Archaeology Society

(founded 1984)


Our aims are:

  • to provide a focus for interest in the town's past
  • to educate individuals and groups about local remains of human activity with a view to conservation
  • on the practical side, to help increase the current level of knowledge by carrying out research into local history and fieldwork


Our activities include:

  • monthly lecture meetings during the year
  • occasional visits and tours
  • research projects
  • monitoring development applications and where appropriate commenting on those which affect local heritage
Membership information


Membership valid April 2008 - March 2009. New members ioining in December may do so for £4.00 per person. Or January for £2.00 per person. Full Annual Membership £6.

Meetings are held in the John Corbett Room, Droitwich Community Hall, Heritage Way, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, and start at 7.30pm.

Admission: £2.00 members; £3.00 friends and visitors, includes refreshments after the meeting.

Visits and tours are usually free to members.
We publish a twice-yearly newsletter.

Current and recent projects:

  • An ongoing research project into the village of Salwarpe, which has produced two booklets so far
  • Transcribing the 19th century diary of Reverend Lea, vicar of St Peter's, to be published shortly
  • A Discovery Day held in May 2002, funded by "Awards for All", entitled "Different Times, Different Lives in Droitwich" which focused on ordinary people throughout Droitwich's past
  • Resource Packs provided to all local schools and to the History Centre in Worcester in January 2002, using 85 images and 44 texts from the Millennium Exhibition [see below]
  • A month-long exhibition in Droitwich Library during June 2000 to mark the Millennium, funded by the Millennium Festival" Awards for All", entitled "Droitwich Through 2000 Years"; it had more visitors than any previous Library exhibition
